Bio
Jack Henry Whetstone was raised in equal parts by a writer, photographer and an untamable hound dog named Annie in Durham, North Carolina. Whetstone grew up making in clay, and was fortunate to study under contemporary ceramicists, Tony Marsh and Yun-Dong Nam while he was in high school. He later earned his B.F.A from the Sam Fox School of Art At Washington University in St. Louis in 2023, where he explored the elemental qualities that make and keep us human.

While Whetstone's current work spans across media, he is often informed by conceptual tensions within clay. Themes including natural vs manmade, wild vs tame,  immediate vs eternal, as well as human relationship to the land are constant throughout his practice. His art often rests on the boundaries of these tensions, probing for areas of overlap where the dichotomies are equally balanced and visible.
